Lunchtime.
What to make for lunch? What can I take on the go? Lunch presents problems for some folks. When you’ve got a commute to the office or kids with big appetites that need a healthy burst of energy in those grueling 8 hours of school, it can be annoying to plan for creative and nutritious lunches. When I went to the office, I really had to get my thinking cap on for lunch options that I could take to work and that wouldn’t take too long to prepare the night before. Okay, I’ll be honest and say I actually used to make curries to take to work for lunch. Why? Because I love good food and lunchtime is unstoppable for me!
But I completely understand that that’s not what everyone wants to do the night before work! As much as I loved my curry lunches, of course it didn’t happen all the time. I had a long commute in the mornings and evenings, so on top of preparing dinner and running out the door early, you can sure bet that making a lunch - exquisite or not - was just not going to happen! So I’ve fallen victim to resorting to purchasing my lunch eating out.
When we have to rely on eating out because we just can’t be bothered with making lunch, we don’t always make the healthiest choices. There were some healthy restaurants near my office, such as Freshii and Pi-Rho (which I highly recommend if you come to Ottawa!), but also some less nutritious options… And who can say no to the person who brings in pizza and donuts when you’re ravenous!
I’m not a dad yet but if making lunch for myself was such a challenge then I feel for you parents out there! Our kids’ nutrition is so important while they’re at school. Lunchtime is the time for kids to take a break, and when they’re small and developing, we really should consider giving them the best fuel so that they can continue on with their day and do their best in school!
I do hope to be the dad of the kid who makes all the other kids jealous of their lunchbox someday! I think this healthy deli roasted turkey guacamole lunch wrap will just do the trick!
No matter what age you are, what circumstances you’re dealing with, you should have no reason to neglect lunch and take it as an opportunity to have healthy and tasty food. This deli turkey lunch wrap takes only a few minutes to assemble and it’s so delicious hot or cold. Read on to find out how to make it!
Ingredients for Healthy Deli Turkey Lunch Wrap
You won’t need much to make this wrap, which makes it perfect for a weekday option to take to school or work! Here’s what you need:
Deli turkey meat of choice: You can’t go wrong with a classic oven-roasted deli turkey.
Tortillas or paratha breads: If you’re in a time crunch then of course use store-bought tortillas. For this occasion, however, I had the time to make homemade parathas, also known as my “wrap bread.” Check out the recipe and you’ll see that it’s not too difficult to make this bread from scratch! If you are opting for store-bought tortillas, try to look for a brand that has the shortest ingredient list.
Guacamole: Similar to the wrap, if you want to use store-bought guacamole to save time that’s totally fine! Though I do recommend you check out my homemade guacamole recipe, making your own is just so quick and easy! I’ve actually never purchased store-bought guacamole, but it may be fresher if you made your own, plus you can customize it! You can batch-prepare some guacamole on Sunday and it can stay fresh for three days in the fridge if you store it well. Check out the recipe to find out how to keep your guacamole lasting as long as possible!
Spinach: I don’t think I have to tell you how good spinach is for you! But I like it because it adds a nice crunch to the wrap!
Cherry tomatoes: These add a touch of sweetness and contrast the guacamole quite well!
Mozzarella cheese: I simply adore the molten cheese with the guacamole and the turkey. This just completes the wrap! I don’t think I can have a wrap without cheese!
How to Make this Deli Roasted Turkey Guacamole Lunch Wrap
This wrap is really so quick and straightforward to make, which is why it’s perfect to meal prep or make when you need a simple lunch! Be sure to scroll
Begin by heating a pan on medium-low heat. Place your tortilla or paratha on the pan, and add the cheese in the centre.
As the cheese begins to melt, add the deli turkey on top.
Once the tortilla or paratha has warmed up, take your wrap off the pan and place it on a cutting board or kitchen counter and top with spinach.
Then, add your sliced onions.
Followed by your chopped tomatoes.
Finally, spread the guacamole onto the wrap.
Roll the wrap tightly and cover the end of the wrap in aluminum foil, serve hot, and enjoy!
Making the Wrap Ahead of Time
Yes, you can make this wrap ahead of time and take it on the go! Simply cover the entire wrap in foil instead of half the wrap, as shown in the picture. You can leave these wraps in the fridge for about 2-3 days. To reheat your wrap, if you want it warm, either put your wrap in the oven with the foil on, or in the microwave for about 1 minute.
However, I’d like to let you know that I personally don’t like guacamole warm. If you do then that’s great! If you don’t, then either eat the wrap cold or serve immediately!
