What is the secret to great nachos?

Great nachos come from ensuring that no blank space is left on those nachos! You want to ensure that each chip is coated with some or all of the toppings so that every bite is tasty and exciting!

Do You Put Meat or Cheese First on Nachos?

The art of layering nachos can be compared to layering a lasagna. Every layer needs to be loaded with goodness, and in this case, the cheeseburger mixture! With that being said, we’ll add the meat first, followed by the cheese, followed by more nachos, and repeat. We’re utilizing the cheese as a glue to ensure that the toppings don’t just slide off when you’re actually eating the nachos. Additionally, make sure to leave the sauces for garnish at the very end to complete your layered nachos!

How do You prevent Nachos from Getting Soggy?

The culprit of soggy nachos arises from excessive liquid, which can be as a result of using fresh veggies that release juices, such as tomatoes. The excess liquid could also be as a result of the grease released from cheese while baking. If using fresh tomatoes, try to use only the flesh of the tomato and avoid adding excess juices from it.

Are Nachos Baked or Broiled?

My recommendation is a to actually do a combination of both! I suggest to bake the nachos until the cheese starts to melt. Afterward, turn on the broiler until the cheese and nacho chips are browned to your liking.

For the sautéed Onions

Add butter to a warm pan pan and then add sliced onions. Season with a generous pinch of salt and cook until they have turned translucent. Set aside for now.

For the burger mixture

Add olive oil to the pan heated on medium heat.

Add ground beef and break down any large chunks. Add the dried spices, paprika, ground cumin, oregano, salt and pepper. Mix well and cook for 5-8 minutes or until the spices are well roasted and most of the moisture from the meat has cooked off. Create a gap in the middle of the pan and add tomato paste and drizzle some Worcestershire sauce. Cook out the tomato paste for 1-2 minutes and then mix everything together. Taste and adjust any seasonings and then set aside for now.

For the nachos

Preheat the oven to 375 F.

Arrange the nachos in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper in roughly the same shape as your final serving platter. Add spoonfuls of the seasoned meat around and then sprinkle cheese and let it fall through the cracks. Repeat for 3-4 more layers of nachos, meat and cheese

Bake in the oven for 8-10 minutes or until the cheese is molten. Slide the nachos off the parchment paper to the serving plate.Top with sauteed onions, burger sauce, green onions, tomatoes, and a dollop of sour cream in the middle.

Enjoy!

Tips & Tricks For The Best Cheeseburger Nachos

  • Use a sheet of parchment paper to ensure minimal cleanup and to simply slide off the nachos off the baking sheet to the serving platter.

  • To have the cheesiest experience, layer the nachos in a single layer and leave minimal gap between the chips before adding the cheese and make sure to go at least 3 layers up

  • Use a squeeze bottle to garnish nachos with your favourite sauces including the tangy burger sauce or sour cream.

Can I Make Cheeseburger Nachos in Advance?

If you happen to have leftover nachos, then my recommendation would be to eat the lettuce at the very least. Then, you can transfer the extra nachos into an airtight container in the fridge, then you can microwave the leftovers when ready to eat. I actually did this myself since I did have leftovers, and I can guarantee you that the nachos will definitely become a soggy mess. While it definitely won’t be the same eating experience as when you had the Cheeseburger Nachos fresh, it will be good enough and still quite delicious! I wouldn’t keep cooked leftover nachos in the fridge for longer than a day, as they will continue to get soggier the longer they are in the fridge.

However, what you can do is cook the meat mixture the day before to save you some time before actually making the nachos! You can also prep your vegetables and grate the cheese in advance so that all you need to do is assemble and bake!
